NEWS Release1st Annual National Coastal Conference March 16-18
MARCH 12, 1999 A three-day conference entitled "1st Annual National Coastal Conference" will be convened in Kingston at the Jamaica Conference Centre from March 16-18, 1999. Organized by the Council on Ocean and Coastal Zone Management in association with the Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) and the Coastal Water Quality Improvement Project (CWIP) the conference seeks to develop action plans for appropriate policy and regulatory frameworks to undertake effective and rationalized management of Jamaicas ocean and coastal zone. Over one hundred participants representing a wide spectrum of stakeholders from the public and private sectors, NGOs, academic institutions, fishermens organizations, bilateral and multilateral agencies are expected to attend. The conference will deliberate several issues relating to the state of Jamaicas coastal resources including: coastal land use and planning, land- based marine pollution, wetlands and sea grasses, use of beaches, coastal and marine wildlife, water quality, coral reefs and fish stocks. Other topics to be discussed include "Partnership for Sustainable Development in the Coastal Zone"and "Coastal and Ocean Zone Policy Issues in Jamaica." Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Anthony Hylton and Ambassador Don Mills will address the official opening of the conference scheduled to take place at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16. For More Information Contact: |
