BIRD SHOOTING SEASON AUGUST 21 - SEPTEMBER 26, 1999

The 1999 Bird Shooting Season starts on Saturday, August 21 and will last
six weeks ending on Sunday, September 26, 1999. During the Season, hunters will be allowed to hunt three game birds including
the Long-tailed Peadove, the Whitewing and the Baldpate.
The bag limit is twenty (20) birds per shoot and only twelve (12)
Baldpates are to be shot in any one shoot.
Hunters must leave the feathers on one wing of each bird for identification
purposes. Shooting is restricted to Saturdays and Sundays.
On Saturdays shooting is allowed from sunrise to 9:00 a.m. and
from 2:30 p.m. to sunset. On Sundays, shooting is permitted from sunrise to 9:00 a.m.
only. Each hunter is required by law to have a Hunter's Licence in his/her possession
when shooting. The Natural
Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) and several certified vendors
will be issuing Hunter's Licence at a cost of two thousand ($2,000) dollars
each commencing Tuesday, August 17, 1999.
Persons applying for Hunter's Licence must possess a valid Firearm
Licence or a User's Permit from the police.
Hunters Report Forms must be returned to the Natural Resources
Conservation Authority (NRCA) by the 31st of December 1999. Hunting is prohibited in designated Game Reserves, Game Sanctuaries, Marine
Parks and National Parks. Additionally,
shooting is prohibited on private property without the owner's permission. Hunters are reminded that under the Wild Life Protection Act it is an
offence to hunt outside the specified dates, days and times, to take bird
species that are not prescribed and to hunt in prohibited areas.
Failure to comply can attract a maximum fine of One Hundred Thousand
Dollars ($100,000) or up to one year imprisonment. The NRCA is urging hunters to comply with the rules and regulations and to cooperate with Environmental Wardens, Game Wardens and the Police responsible for monitoring the Bird Shooting Season. For More Information Contact: |
