PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT        11.6.2002

NEPA ADVISES ON CROCODILE INCIDENTS

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) wishes to reiterate a previous advisory sent out by the agency informing members of the public that due to the ongoing inclement weather there has been an increase in crocodile incidents across the island.

NEPA wishes to advise members of the public that crocodile habitats; (swamps, rivers, gullies or any other water bodies) should be avoided or approached with extreme caution.  The public is being urged not to molest, attempt to kill or harm these crocodiles in any way as crocodiles are inclined to become aggressive if they are attacked or disturbed.

The public is being reminded that these animals are protected by the Wild Life Protection Act.

Members of the public are being urged to report all crocodile incidents to the
NEPA Hotline
1-888-991-5005.
