PORT AUTHORITY ORDERED TO CEASE DREDGING

The Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) has served a Notice on Port Authority of Jamaica to cease dredging and reclamation activities in the Kingston Harbour, Hunts Bay and its environs. The Notice has been served because of the breach of conditions of a Licence issued to the Port Authority and the release of materials into the western section of Hunts Bay.

The Notice dated May 2, 2002, states that the Port Authority is required to cease all activities relating to dredging and reclamation currently taking place and remove any encroachment inconsistent and contrary to the terms and conditions of the approved licence or the licence will not be renewed.

The Notice warns that failure to comply will result in legal proceedings being instituted against the Port Authority.
