NEPA Joins International Community in Celebrating World Town Planning
Day.
.Seeks Public Support to Popularize Event
The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) will join the international
community in celebrating World Town Planning Day (WTPD), on Saturday,
November 8, this year. Under the theme: " Creating Livable Cities ",
NEPA has planned a number of activities designed to bring visibility
to WTPD's objective, which is to recognize how urban, rural, and regional
planning help to create healthy and vibrant communities and cities, worldwide.
This year marks the fifty-fourth anniversary of WTPD.
A two-day exhibition will be mounted at the Tom Redcam Library in Kingston
, starting on Friday, November 7. Members of the public are invited to
view the exhibit which opens at twelve noon on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on
Saturday. The exhibition runs until five in the afternoon, each day.
Mini exhibitions will also be mounted in the foyer of NEPA's business
offices, at 10 and 11 Caledonia Avenue , in Kingston .
Members of NEPA's Planning team will visit with and make presentations
to the Charlie Smith High School , in Kingston , on Thursday, November
6.
WTPD is currently celebrated in thirty countries on four continents.
The day is observed as one of the ways to promote awareness and support
for community planning. WTPD celebrations are also designed to indicate
international governments' commitment to promoting planning as a way
for citizens to shape a sustainable strategy for the future.
In Jamaica
, WTPD is still in its fledgling stages. Members of the public are kindly
asked to support NEPA's efforts, in order to help publicize the importance
of sustainable planning in Jamaica .
