Press Release - September 14, 2004

Crocodile Alert!

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is advising the public to exercise extreme caution in areas close to swamps and wetlands due to the recent heavy rains and subsequent flooding caused by Hurricane Ivan.

Persons are also advised to avoid bathing in or near these areas as crocodiles are likely to move with flood waters and may be found in areas outside of their original habitat.

The public is being reminded to contact NEPA at any of the following numbers: 754-7540-1, or 754-7546-51, or the nearest police station, in the event a crocodile is seen in one of these areas.

Crocodiles are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, it is therefore illegal to kill, catch, or molest them.
