NEPA Hosts First of Two Judicial Symposia for 2004……Aims to Sensitise Legal Profession on Environment and Planning Legislation
In its continuing drive to sensitise legal professionals on environmental issues in Jamaica, the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) will host the first of two symposia in Ocho Rios this weekend. Under the theme “Challenges in the Enforcement of Selected Environmental Legislations”, the conference which is targeted to Clerks of Courts, kicks off at the Renaissance Jamaica Grande Hotel on Friday, April 23.
The symposium will focus on environmental and planning legislations and aims to provide practical information on issues which confront agencies empowered to protect Jamaica’s natural and built environments. It is a collaborative effort between NEPA and the USAID’s Ridge to Reef Watersheds Project (R2RW) and the Chief Justice of Jamaica and the Director of Public Prosecutions.
This year marks the second time in two years that NEPA, through its Legal Services Branch, has partnered with members of the legal profession and other environmental agencies to organize judicial symposia.
It forms part of NEPA’s ongoing work to build capacity in the public sector in environmental education and sustainable development.
