PRESS RELEASE - August 19 , 2005

NEPA's Hunters Forum Held at Knutsford Court Hotel

“When will the Bird Hunting Season be declared?”

This seems to be the topic of conversation among these participants in the National Environment and Planning Agency’s Hunters Forum, which was held at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston, on August 8.

From left to right are: Richard Nelson, Coordinator in the Biodiversity Branch at NEPA; Errol Ziadie, Chairman of the Game Bird Sub-Committee; Roger Williams, Manager of the Enforcement Branch and Hopeton Heron, Acting Chief Executive Officer of NEPA.

NEPA invited bird hunters to discuss the proposed changes to the regulations to allow juveniles and foreign nationals to participate in the hunting season; increases in the licence fees and the pending 2005 season.

Hunters expressed their concerns that a season had still not been declared. Based on a NEPA survey of the bird population, questions about the season are still being reviewed.
