2012 Game Bird Hunting Season opens tomorrow Saturday, August 18. Absolutely no shooting in Game and Forest Reserves says NEPA

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is informing the public that the 2012 Game Bird Hunting Season opens tomorrow Saturday, August 18. The season popularly called the bird shooting season will last for six weekends until Sunday, September 23 2012.

It is mandatory that prospective hunters obtain a Hunters’ Licence from the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) or one of the Authorized Vendors. All Hunters must have a valid Firearm Licence/User’s Permit.

Hunters are reminded there is to be absolutely no shooting in game and forest reserves, and the head of the bird must be retained on the body for inspection. The Hunters Bird Shooting Report Forms should be correctly completed.

The Game Bird Hunting Season is regulated under the Wild Life Protection Act 1945. Anyone caught in breach of the Act, that is, hunting without a Hunters’ Licence, hunting in game reserves, hunting outside of designated shooting periods, hunting birds which are not designated game birds, as well as exceeding the bag limit can be fined up to $100,000 or imprisoned for one year.
