The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) served Wray and Nephew Limited, operators of Appleton Estates, with a warning for the discharge of high-strength trade effluent (dunder) into the environment in the area of North Elim River, St. Elizabeth.
The company has been ordered to cease the activity immediately and take measures to mitigate the impact of the discharge.
On Saturday, March 28 2015, NEPA responded to a report from Appleton Estate that dunder was released into the environment during their operations the night before.
The investigations are continuing and further action will be taken as indicated.
NEPA will provide updates as the investigations progress.
