2015 Game Bird Shooting Season To Open August 22, 2015

The Minster of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Robert Pickersgill has declared the 2015 Game Bird Shooting Season open on Saturday, August 22 for five weekends only. The season will close on Sunday, September 20.

All hunters must obtain a Hunter's Licence from the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) or any of its authorized vendors. The sale of Hunters' Licences commences on August 14, 2015. The Hunters' Licencing fee is $15,000. All applicants must have a valid Firearm Licence/User's Permit and Tax Registration Number.

During the season, shooting is restricted to Saturdays and Sundays only. On Saturdays there are two shooting sessions - from Sunrise to 9:00 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to Sunset. Only one shooting session is allowed on Sundays – from Sunrise to 9:00 a.m.

Only the following birds may be shot during the season, the Bald Pate (White Crowned Pigeon); Pea Dove (Zenaida Dove); White-winged Dove; and Long-tailed Pea Dove (Mourning Dove). The bag limit at each shooting session is 20 birds, of which no more than 15 should be White Crowned Pigeon/Bald Pate. The Game Bird Shooting Season is regulated under the Wild Life Protection Act. Anyone caught in breach of the Act, that is: shooting without a Hunter's Licence; shooting outside of the season; shooting in Game Reserves; shooting protected birds or exceeding the bag limit, can be fined up to $100,000 and or imprisonment for one year.

The heads of all game birds shot must be retained for inspection. Shooting within Game Reserves and Forest Reserves and 50 meter distance from the boundaries of the Game Reserves is prohibited.
