Doctor's Cave Beach is located on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard popularly known as 'the Hip Strip' in Montego Bay, St. James. It is one of Jamaica’s most recognizable and well-known beaches. Doctor's Cave not only serves as a public recreational beach but is also used by hotel guests of surrounding hotels as a part of their guest packages.

Description & Environmental Features

The beach consists of fine grain soft white sand while the backshore is vegetated with large trees such as Coconut Palm (Cocos spp.) and West Indian Almond (Terminalia catappa). Seagrass beds and a fringing coral reef are located close offshore.

Accessibility and Parking

The beach is accessed directly off Jimmy Cliff Boulevard. The entrance to the beach only allows for pedestrian traffic. The beach does not have its own parking area, however, the Municipal Corporation offers paid parking along the main road.

Amenities

Food services are available as there is a restaurant and snack shop with seating areas that can accommodate large gatherings. Restroom, showers and changing room facilities are available at the beach. Patrons are also offered rental services for umbrellas, airbed/floating pool mattress and chairs.

Things to do

The beach is pleasant for swimming, snorkelling and wading. The beach also offers a large open space in the backshore for activities such as beach volleyball and football. In addition, there are nearby hotels, stores, restaurants, attractions and bars where beachgoers can further enjoy the day. This includes areas such as Margaritaville, Rocklands Bird Sanctuary and Great River Bamboo Rafting tours.
