Salem Beach is located in the community of Salem, St. Ann. The beach is quite extensive in length and stretches for approximately 300 metres (1,000 feet). Its variable width yields an average of 15 metres (48 feet) which results in a usable area of roughly 4,500 square metres or just little over an acre. Bordering the beach are private properties and the Northcoast highway.
This the beach is gently sloping and consists comprised of light brown sand which oftentimes remaining suspended in the water giving it a brown appearance. The beach features three drains on westerns, central and eastern section of the property. The lands closest to the roadway have trees, bushes and grasses. Approximately 300 metres (1,000 feet) off shore is a line of coral reefs. Small patches of seagrass beds may be found nearer to shore.

Salem Beach is a multi-functional beach, consisting of a seafood restaurant and bar for visitors who wish to grab a bite throughout the day. Beach goers are provided with SCUBA diving facilities, changing rooms and restrooms. Beach safety measures are also in place. There is also a fishing village with equipment shed and a vending pavilion for persons who wish to purchase fresh caught fish.
Beachgoers can dine at the on-site restaurant, walk along the beach, and sunbathe.
If visitors wish to explore beyond the beach, the Runaway Bay Golf Course is close by. Individuals can also explore the town of Runaway Bay approximately 4km from Salem Beach. Various accommodations are within close proximity to the beach including Royal Decameron Club Caribbean, Jewel Paradise Cove Beach Resort by Curio, Grand Bahia Principe, Tamarind Tree Resort Hotel and Runaway Bay Heart Hotel.
