NEPA Identifies Cause of Pollution in the Kingston Harbour

January 1, 2011

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), with technical support from the laboratories of PetroJam Ltd and the Bureau of Standards Jamaica, can now attribute the pollutant observed in the Kingston Harbour since Thursday December 30 2010 to combustion matter most likely from a motor vessel docked in the harbour.

Although not yet able to determine the vessel from which the pollutant material was discharged NEPA is already in the early stages of a multi-agency and community organization clean-up effort along a five kilometer section of the harbour.
