NEPA responds to report about possible hazardous substance leak in Pennant, Clarendon

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has mobilized a multiagency team to investigate a possible leak of hazardous material in Pennant, Clarendon.

The response team includes NEPA technical officers and representatives from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Mines and Geology Department, the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Veterinary Services, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Clarendon Health Department.

The team is responding to a report from the Chapleton Police that a substance is leaking from a container at a site in the area.

The Agency is cautioning persons to stay away from the area and to avoid using the nearby spring, until advised further.

NEPA will provide updates as information becomes available.
