NEPA serves NWA with Warning Notice for unapproved work at Palisadoes

August 15, 2011

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) today served a Warning Notice on the National Works Agency (NWA) for undertaking work in a Protected Area without approval.

NWA was cited for clearing a section of land along the road-way and for operating heavy equipment on a sand dune and the beach within the Palisadoes-Port Royal Protected Area.

Based on reports, NEPA officers carried out investigations at the site this morning and served the Warning Notice. NWA has been instructed to immediately restore the affected areas by replanting shrubbery and repairing the sand dune.

In 2010 the Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) approved two (2) Environmental Permits and two (2) Environmental Licences to NWA to support the GOJ project for Palisadoes Shoreline Protection.
