The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) further advises that preliminary activities have been carried out to protect public health and safety of the environment at the inactive gold mining site at Pennants, Clarendon. The following actions have been effected to date:

  • The area surrounding the immediate processing area has been cordoned off
  • Warning signs have been erected
  • Private security officers have been posted to secure the site
  • Temporary measures have been taken to contain the leak from the tank

The engaged consultant has submitted a short-term action plan to neutralize and remove the toxic material from the tank on site. The plan is to be implemented by the week of July 18 2011.

NEPA also again advises that persons are to refrain from accessing the site or releasing animals into the area.
